Kourtney-Cymone Charles was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She is currently a dancer with Forces of Nature Dance Theater; but her dance journey began at the Bedford- Stuyvesant Youth’s Arts Academy. It was there where she was introduced to Chuck Davis and the experience of Dance Africa. She’s performed in Dance Africa’s production since 1997, and feels blessed to still be a part of continuing Chuck’s legacy. Kourtney has also studied at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, the Alvin Ailey American Dance School’s Junior Division, and attended Marymount Manhattan College where she received her BA in Teaching Dance Art. In 2018 she completed BAM’s Fellowship in Theater Production and Stagecraft, where she explored production management, lighting, sound, and carpentry. Versatility is her motto, and it was important for her to change her perspective and become hands on with the behind the scenes of art making. With gaining these extra skills, she hopes to embark on an exciting journey of being a professional dancer and developing a career in both theater and film production.
